I work in the genre of post-irony, self-irony; it's part of my signature style. I wanted to create porcelain dolls as a metaphor for women who tell their stories of not always successful love, and the perception of beauty as a guarantee of a comfortable place in life. The plot of this film revolves around the idea that the purpose of any doll is to shine, to be the center of adoration.

AU CŒUR DU PROJET / INSIDE THE PROJECT
Perfectly Rejected (2025) is the first feature film created entirely using artificial intelligence under the control of an artist.
Author Yuldus Bakhtiozina, director and visual artist, participant of Berlinale, Raindance, Shanghai IFF, and the first Russian TED speaker.
The film explores themes of perfection, vulnerability, and self-acceptance through the images of porcelain characters—creatures "rejected" for their imperfections. The project addresses the cult of perfectionism and seeks a new language for human-AI interaction.
This work is at the intersection of auteur cinema, philosophical expression, and visual art, where artificial intelligence becomes not a tool but a co-author of human emotions.

Premiere: August 20, 2025, KOROCHE Film Festival (Kaliningrad)

À PROPOS DE L’ARTISTE / ABOUT THE ARTIST
Uldus Bakhtiozina
Director, artist, actress, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer.
She works with analog photography and video. In her projects, the artist addresses themes of self-identification, exploring social roles and their transformation in relation to past archetypes and present stereotypes. Her visual language is characterized by fantasy, escapism, and, as the artist puts it, the "documentation" of dreams. Uldus draws inspiration from Russian fairy tales and folklore. She designs and creates the models' looks, including makeup, costumes, and various artifacts.

Uldus is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in London and a finalist for the Arte Laguna Art Prize. In 2014, she became the first Russian speaker at the TED conference and was also included in the BBC's list of "100 Women of the Year Changing the World for the Better." In 2016, Vogue Italia named Yuldus Bakhtiozina the Best Young Photographer. In 2019, the artist collaborated on the production of "Aisha and Abhaya" at the Rambert Theatre and the Royal Opera House as a costume designer.

In 2020, Yuldus Bakhtiozina premiered her debut feature film, "The Fisherman's Daughter," for which she served as the concept artist, director, screenwriter, cinematographer, and costume designer. The film was screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin, Riga IFF, as well as the Raindance Independent Film Festival in London and the Andrei Tarkovsky International Film Festival "Zerkalo."

In August 2025, the artist's film "Perfectly Rejected," created entirely using artificial intelligence, premiered. This marks the first time a film generated by a director using neural networks has been released on the big screen in Russia.

Yuldus Bakhtiozina's works are included in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) and the Fabergé Museum (St. Petersburg).
